A never ending love of Moonrise Resort...

The property that eventually ended up as Moonrise Resort was purchased and opened up on January 1, 1950 by John & Anna Grimes.  They escaped the cold of the north to start their dream of owning a fish camp in Florida.   Their love of the property and the view across the lake quickly pulled them in. They built cabins 2, 3, 4, and 5, and named it Moonrise Fish Camp.  They lived in cabin #5 with their two sons until they sold it five years later.  Ironically, their son, Paul came back to visit 60 years later and provided lots of old photos.

Over the many years, the property went through many owners and changes.  The Rayes owned the property in the 60's and their granddaughter, Charlotte McQuien, is a guest to this day.  The Plevell's owned the property for 12 years into the early 1970's.  In the early 80's, the Felty's owned it and started the mobile home park closest to Old Floral City Road.

Mike & Sue Ellen Friddle bought it in 1986 and after 32 years and many renovations sold it in 2018 to Birch Realty.  Many guests that came during those years got to experience Moonrise Resort as a child with their parents.  They are now grown and are returning guests with their own children and grandchildren.

Many friends were made during these years.

Birch Realty continues to offer the same beautiful, relaxing atmosphere that so many people have come to enjoy at Moonrise Resort.  If you are a past guest, resident, or someone new to Moonrise Resort, please come and experience what we still have to offer and so much more. Stay with us nightly, weekly, monthly, or during the winter season, and find out how quickly that you too will love this beautiful property.  Moonrise Resort, Citrus County’s best kept secret … you will not be disappointed.
